This Thanksgiving, Are You Most Thankful for Your Health?

Happy Thanksgiving!

We love this holiday because it gets us to think about what we’re grateful for. We can all agree that one of the most important things you can have in life is good health. Even if your health isn’t perfect, it’s most likely better than it could be, and normally you have the power to improve it.

Thanksgiving is the time to think about everything you’re thankful for, and your health should be at the top of that list!

Health is everything 

You know the old saying, “When you have your health, you have everything.” It really is true. No matter who you are, what your goals in life are, or what other great things you have going for you, good health is essential if you want to lead a truly successful life.

Good health enables you to do the things that are important to you. And when you have it, everything else in life comes easier.

As Bob Dylan once said, “A man is a success if he gets up in the morning and gets to bed at night, and in between he does what he wants to do.” Good health allows you to do that.

Taking care of your body is the best way to give thanks for your health 

We only get one body, and treating it well is the best way to give thanks for your health. This Thanksgiving, as you think about all you’re grateful for, make a commitment to protect (and even improve) your health in the year ahead. The better you care for your health, the more you’ll have to be thankful for.

Make a commitment to:

1) Exercise 

This is one we always talk about, and it’s not just because it’s our life’s work. But we know—we’ve seen firsthand—how important regular exercise is to your overall well-being.

It can be hard at first to make the commitment to have exercise be a part of your daily routine. But once you practice this for a while, exercise becomes a habit you don’t want to miss. At Jesse James Fit and Outlaw FitCamp, we’ve worked hard to develop effective workouts that take only 30 minutes. The payoff for this 30-minute commitment is invaluable.

2) Eat well

Instead of eating the right foods so you look better, try thinking about eating well just to boost your energy level and fuel your body the right way. It takes a while for the scales to move and for your jeans to fit better, but eating healthy food improves your mood and energy level right away. There’s an immediate reward of simply feeling better when you eat well—you don’t have to wait a few weeks to reap the benefits of weight loss or better fitting clothes. This immediate reward of feeling better can motivate you to keep eating well and that will lead to those longer-term goals.

If you remind yourself that what you eat now will affect how you feel in just a few hours, it may be easier to stick to a healthy diet.

3) Get enough sleep 

Getting enough sleep every night is critically important to your health and well-being. It’s important enough that we wrote an entire blog post on this just this recently. You can read it HERE.

4) Relax and enjoy life! 

We realize this is easier said than done, but everyone has activities that help them de-stress and relax. Know what yours are and carve out some time for them.

Maybe it helps you relax to take a walk or a run. Getting outside is relaxing for many people. Put your phone down and read a book. Ride a bike, nap, or if it relaxes you, just watch some mindless television. But not for too long; exercise will help you feel better in the long run!

Whatever it is that helps you unwind, set aside some time for that.

Practicing gratitude is good for your health 

It’s a great relationship, gratitude and health. Not only is health the most important thing in life to be grateful for, but more and more researchers are finding that being grateful improves your health!

Studies have shown that practicing gratitude is linked to a number of health benefits. And the good news is that you don’t have to be a natural at it—gratitude is something you can learn!
