Choosing to get in shape is one of the most rewarding and satisfying decisions you can make. There are so many benefits to increasing your strength, stamina and overall well-being. However, finding the right personal trainer to help you get there can be tough! It’s important to find a trainer or training facility that is the right fit to help you reach your unique goals. Here are 5 of our favorite tips for anyone looking for a new coach to get them in shape.

How qualified are they?

It’s important to find a certified personal trainer, not just someone with a nice weight set and a list of exercises. We see time and time again the “fly-by-night” gyms that come and go in what feels like a matter of months. It is important to make sure your trainer is established in the community and is here to stay. After all, getting in shape doesn’t happen overnight. You wouldn’t want your personal trainer to go out of business a few months into your training.

Have they proven that they can get results?

Anyone can tell you that they can help you with your personal training, but not everyone can prove it to you. Be sure to ask for referrals, before and after photos, and other testimonials. The more referrals a personal trainer has, the better! Trust us, every fitness plan is unique to the individual it’s tailored for. Finding a fitness coach with a long list of satisfied clients proves they know their stuff and can create a plan that will also work for you!

Are they available when you need them?

We’ll take a wild guess and say that you’re probably a very busy person. With schedules always changing and life throwing out curveballs, it’s so important to find a fitness training team that can adapt with your schedule. Ask if they are available during early mornings, lunch, or at least at the times you are often free. You would hate to be locked in with a personal trainer, but never get to see them if your schedule happens to suddenly change.

Do they help you beyond just working out?

Your diet is one of the most important aspects of your fitness. It doesn’t matter how often or how well you work out, if you spoil it all away with bad nutrition. We always recommend choosing a trainer that helps craft a diet plan that helps you reach your fitness needs. This could be developing new recipes, shopping lists, or just pointing out specific foods to eat around the holidays.

Are they priced reasonably?

These things all sound great to have in a personal trainer, but it doesn’t help if it comes at a price tag you can’t afford. The last tip we have is to find a trainer that fits within your budget. It would be very challenging if you were forced to halt on all your fitness progress, because expenses became an issue. Getting into shape is a process that takes time, but should be fun and enjoyable. Don’t stretch yourself financially and risk not finishing what you started!
